The new directors bring a combined focus on artificial intelligence, fintech, and venture capital, signaling a shift in how the nonprofit intends to support its network of 7,000 volunteers. Board Chair Julie Poland stated that the diverse expertise of the incoming members will be vital for scaling mentorship resources and guiding the organization’s national growth strategy.

Carlos Blanco joins with three decades of experience in high-growth technology ventures, while Kelly Spillane contributes extensive background in small business advocacy and supplier lending from her work with Whole Foods Market. The board also adds technical depth through Rachel Wei West, an expert in AI and fintech, and Dr. Sunny Zhang, a researcher and developer currently working on AI-driven community operating systems. These appointments support SCORE’s ongoing mission, which has reached over 20 million entrepreneurs since its inception in 1964.
