While many filters share similar external dimensions, their internal performance varies significantly under real-world operating conditions. Selecting the correct filter requires balancing filtration efficiency against flow requirements. Micron ratings serve as the primary indicator of particle capture, but smaller is not always better; choosing the wrong rating can create unnecessary system restrictions that force pumps to work harder than necessary.
Efficiency is further defined by the beta rating, which tracks the ratio of particles trapped versus those that pass through the media. Beyond simple capture rates, maintenance teams must account for collapse ratings, which measure a filter's ability to withstand structural stress during cold starts or rapid pressure fluctuations. If a filter lacks the required collapse rating, it risks structural failure, potentially releasing trapped contaminants back into the hydraulic stream.
