When that deal failed to materialize, the resulting hedge loss contributed to a $451.9 million net loss for the second quarter of 2026.

During an earnings call on August 6, 2026, CEO Mathew Ishbia acknowledged the company was "over-hedged" while attempting to protect against risks associated with the Two Harbors acquisition. The market reacted swiftly to the financial results and the disclosure of a $603.2 million interest rate derivatives loss.
