The initiative, facilitated through the iHeartImpact program, seeks to bridge the gap in equipment access for high-need communities. Many of these institutions rely on gear that is at least seven to ten years old, limiting the ability of students to participate in organized athletics. By streamlining corporate advertising spend into social impact, the collaboration intends to lower participation costs and expand programming for youth athletes nationwide.
TruGreen and iHeartMedia Launch Youth Sports Equipment Initiative
More than 80% of teachers at under-resourced schools currently spend personal funds on athletic supplies, a financial strain that TruGreen aims to alleviate. The lawn care provider has teamed up with the nonprofit Good Sports and iHeartMedia to deliver brand-new gear to students at Nashville’s Maplewood High School.
At the Maplewood High School Play Day, volunteers from TruGreen led student-athletes through drills in flag football, volleyball, and soccer to debut the donated supplies. Melissa Harper, CEO and co-founder of Good Sports, emphasized that the partnership addresses a fundamental barrier to entry for children in underserved regions. Brian Bugara, Senior Vice President at TruGreen, noted that the effort aligns with the company’s focus on fostering teamwork and leadership values through physical activity. Since its inception in 2003, Good Sports has distributed over $137 million in equipment to more than 11 million children across the United States.
