METLEN secures Japanese buyer for Greek gallium output

METLEN has signed a long-term supply agreement with a major Japanese chemical company for its forthcoming Greek gallium production. The deal covers up to 16% of the annual output from the facility currently under construction, signaling a robust international appetite for diversified critical material supply chains in Europe.

This arrangement marks the second strategic partnership for the Athens-based firm, which is positioning its integrated production model to meet global industrial demands. By utilizing feedstock from its wholly owned Aluminium of Greece refinery, the company aims to establish a reliable European alternative in a market traditionally dominated by other regions. Executive Chairman Evangelos Mytilineos noted that the international response has consistently outperformed company projections.

With commercial operations slated to commence in the third quarter of 2027, the facility is nearing full capacity commitments. Given the current pace of these agreements, the total projected output of 50 metric tons per annum will likely be entirely allocated well before production begins. This project serves as a cornerstone for METLEN's Critical & Rare Metals division, underscoring a broader shift toward securing essential materials for next-generation technological innovation.
