The partnership signals a strategic shift for the Sydney-based material science firm, which previously focused its graphene applications on industrial safety boots. By transitioning from workwear collaborations with manufacturers like Steel Blue to the competitive athletic market, First Graphene is scaling its commercial footprint in the United States.
First Graphene Enters Global Sports Footwear Market with Flux Deal
US-based Flux Footwear has placed its inaugural production order for PureGRAPH, marking First Graphene’s entry into the $150 billion athletic shoe sector. The collaboration integrates the advanced material into Flux’s Graphene XT gym shoes, aiming to boost durability and grip without adding weight to the performance range.

PureGRAPH will replace existing materials in Flux’s high-wear outsoles, leveraging the substance's resistance to abrasion and tearing. While the initial order size is not financially material, Managing Director Michael Bell noted that the deal establishes a pathway for recurring revenue and validates the company's ability to migrate technology across disparate product categories. As global demand for high-performance, sustainable sports gear continues to climb, the move positions First Graphene to capture a share of a market projected to exceed $212 billion by 2035.
