Florida Costa Sunglasses Owners Eligible for $21.75 Million Settlement

Florida residents who purchased Costa Del Mar sunglasses or paid for repairs between 2012 and 2025 may be entitled to cash payments. A $21.75 million settlement resolves a class action lawsuit alleging the company misled consumers regarding the cost and nature of its repair warranty services.

The litigation centers on claims that Costa’s promise to repair eyewear for a nominal fee was deceptive, particularly when the company charged higher amounts for repairs related to normal wear or accidental damage. Costa Del Mar denies all allegations of wrongdoing or liability as part of the legal agreement.

Eligibility is split into two groups. Repair Class members, who paid to fix non-prescription sunglasses between July 28, 2012, and January 26, 2025, will receive automatic pro rata cash payments for repairs exceeding $11.95. Purchase Class members—those who bought non-promotional, non-prescription sunglasses between July 28, 2013, and January 31, 2018—must file a claim form by January 11, 2027, to receive their share of the $6.375 million allocation. Payments will be distributed via Venmo, PayPal, Zelle, or paper check. Those wishing to opt out of the settlement or file an objection must do so by January 19, 2027. A final court hearing is scheduled for March 23, 2027, to review the settlement terms and requested legal fees of $7,303,605.
