The regulatory decision follows promising results from the Phase II ClearMEMory trial. In this 12-week, multicenter study, patients receiving the treatment demonstrated objective improvements in neuropsychological function compared to those in the placebo group. The Fast Track status allows for more frequent communication with federal regulators and accelerated review processes intended to speed up the delivery of treatments for serious conditions.
Evergreen Therapeutics Gains FDA Fast Track Status for Lupus Drug
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has granted Fast Track designation to EG-501, an investigational drug developed by Maryland-based Evergreen Therapeutics. The therapy aims to treat cognitive impairment in adults suffering from neuropsychiatric systemic lupus erythematosus, a condition currently lacking specialized pharmaceutical interventions.

Tom Du, CEO of Evergreen Therapeutics, noted that the designation highlights the critical demand for new options within the NPSLE-CI community. Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease that causes widespread organ damage, with cognitive deficits—including memory loss and focus issues—representing a significant, yet underserved, clinical challenge. The company now prepares for further clinical development, aiming to address the neuron damage associated with the disease.
