The new dataset covers more than 11,000 U.S. equities and ETFs, tracking portfolio activity from over 8,000 institutional managers. Unlike standard market data that relies on delayed reporting cycles, this API integrates 13F disclosures the moment they are filed. This allows quantitative researchers, brokerages, and fintech platforms to identify position initiations, exits, and shifts in institutional conviction with greater urgency.
Benzinga Launches API to Track Institutional Capital Flows in Real-Time
Detroit-based financial data provider Benzinga has unveiled an Institutional Portfolio Intelligence API, offering firms instant access to hedge fund holdings and capital shifts. By automating the ingestion of 13F filings, the tool bypasses traditional quarterly reporting lags to provide a faster view of how managers allocate over $50 trillion in assets.

Clint Rhea, manager of institutional partnerships at Benzinga, noted that the market does not wait for quarterly refreshes. The platform provides historical data dating back to 2013, alongside metrics on fund performance, sector allocation, and consensus positioning. Designed for seamless integration into existing quantitative models and investor-facing apps, the service is accessible via API, WebSockets, or flat file delivery, providing a comprehensive view of institutional strategies ranging from crowded shorts to large-scale accumulation.
