INELDA and EKR Foundation Launch Grief Education Series

A new 15-hour grief education series, When Grief Is Present, launches in January 2027 as a collaborative effort between the International End-of-Life Doula Association (INELDA) and the Elisabeth Kübler-Ross Foundation. The program aims to move beyond clinical pathology, focusing instead on compassionate presence and human-centered support.

The six-module course, led by Wilka Roig and Omni Kitts Ferrara, draws on the foundational teachings of Dr. Elisabeth Kübler-Ross and the INELDA Doula Approach. Rather than promoting a standardized model for managing grief, the curriculum emphasizes experiential learning and self-awareness. Participants will explore grief as a holistic process, developing skills in active listening and the preservation of individual autonomy. The program is open to healthcare professionals, caregivers, and end-of-life doulas regardless of their prior training background.

Ken Ross, son of Elisabeth Kübler-Ross and president of the EKR Foundation, noted the personal significance of seeing his mother’s bedside philosophy integrated into modern training. INELDA executive director Douglas Simpson echoed this, identifying Kübler-Ross’s early work as a precursor to the modern doula movement. The inaugural sessions run from January 20 to February 8, 2027, on Monday and Wednesday evenings at a base rate of $495. Following this launch, INELDA plans to host its first in-person European training in Zürich, Switzerland, during March 2027.
